SodaStream is a popular way to make your own soda, and it’s my favorite! There are different models to suit different budgets. However, if you’re looking for something cheaper or an alternative to SodaStream to carbonate your own beverages at home, I’ve rounded up the best brands and devices you can consider.
Some of the best SodaStream alternatives will be available in brands like DrinkMate, KitchenAid and Aarke as of 2020, to name a few. There’s also some newer start-up devices that you can consider.
If you know options for soft drink manufacturers, you can easily understand the options available if you want to drink sweetened water or soft drinks from your home or office. We’ve explored and discovered the nine best rated SodaStream alternatives and the two worst options you want to avoid.
1. DRINKMATE Sparkling Water Maker
DrinkMate is the most recommended alternative to any SodaStream device.
The basic design of DrinkMate is similar to SodaStream. The big selling difference in DrinkMate is that you can carbonate any drink, such as juices directly, unlike SodaStream products, which recommends carbonating water and then adding the syrup.
This is because it comes with an adapter, also known as Fizz Infuser. The converter makes DrinkMate a reliable alternative. When you try to carbonate something other than water (like orange juice) in the SodaStream, the carbon dioxide does not dissolve easily, and you often end up with an overflowing drink.
A large portion of carbon dioxide remains in the bottle, and when this bottle is opened, all pressure is released through a foam explosion.
In short, if you’re looking for an alternative with a similar price point as SodaStream, and you want to more reliably carbonate other drinks, check out DrinkMate. (However, it doesn’t come with a CO2 canister, so keep that in mind when comparing price.)

2. KitchenAid Sparking Beverage Maker
The manufacturers of this KitchenAid kitchen manufacturer are one of the largest and oldest hardware manufacturers in the world. So, if you are looking for a high-quality product, you can be sure that the offer is top-notch. However, this is also a more expensive alternative.
The cover of this beverage manufacturer is made of diecast, which makes it extra durable. The material is also easy to clean.
This KitchenAid soda maker makes a more reliable carbonation level than the base models of SodaSteam. With the carbonization lever of the device, you can take your drink to the desired carbon level.
When purchasing KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker, you will get a 60L CO2 tank and a 1L reusable BPA bottle, which is the same as SodaStream’s starter kits.
This beverage maker can cost you a little more than other products on the market. However, the price is comparable to SodaStream’s OneTouch device, which also allows you to have more control over the carbonation levels. However, I’ve never had an issue with getting just the amount of carbonation I’m looking for with the more “manual” SodaStream Fizzi.

3. Aarke Carbonator
If you are looking to buy a premium carbonator, then this will be your best choice. Made of stainless steel, this sparkling watermark has a stylish design that’ll look great in a modern kitchen. But other than the design, I’m not sure that the price tag really outweighs the other upsides. Afterall, in the end, you still are just walking away with homemade soda that’s tasting the same as if you used a SodaStream.
Aarke Premium Carbonator does not require electricity or battery operation, because, like many SodaStream models, it requires manual water carbonization.
Plus, due to its pretty compact size, it is good option if you want something portable. So you can take it with you to make drinks while traveling.

4. Soda Sparkle
Beverage manufacturers at SodaSparkle Home convert tap water into fresh sparkling water in seconds! Including the device in white, 5 x CO2 soda chargers, and 1L bottle. This starter kit comprises everything you need to make sparkling water at home.
It’s a very different design from SodaStream, where you screw on the top for an easy portable design. It’s also a cheaper alternative. But the screw top design and small CO2 attachments means this is good for occasional carbonated drinks, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re frequently making soda at home.

Our REcommendation
I personally love my SodaStream, and I think there’s a model that fits every preference. Another benefit and consideration when buying a soda maker is the cost and convenience of the Co2. You can get SodaStream refills at most major big box chains, and they only cost $15 when you exchange your empty canister. Make sure to compare the prices of the Co2 when you purchase.
Not to mention, there have been competitors to SodaStream that have gone out of business. If that happens to your manufacturer, you might be stuck with a device that you can’t refill.
Overall, our preferred product is SodaStream, and the best alternative is DrinkMate.
